Case Study: American Rock Salt Modernizes Salt Bagging Facility

03/06/2016

American Rock Salt in Mt. Morris, New York, is the highest producing salt mine in the United States. The majority of their business is in bulk markets, but they offered bagged products using equipment that was installed for a now defunct mining operation years ago.

As the bag business grew they decided to increase production capability using modern state-of-the-art equipment and contacted several companies to bid their project.

Ultimately the decision came down to two suppliers that could provide a complete turn-key engineering system.  American Rock Salt selected an nVenia HAMER Brand automated system that included new Model 600NW stainless steel net weigh scales, Model 3100 automated form, fill & seal bagging, robotic palletizing and Wulftec in-line stretch wrapping equipment.

“[The HAMER Brand] was the only company who met our high-speed production and bag fill accuracy requirements,” said George Wilkinson, Project Engineer, American Rock Salt. “The system has been installed and running for over a year.  Bag rates of 25 bags per minute and scale accuracy has met our requirements. System installation went smoothly and the [HAMER] team has continued to support the equipment with immediate follow-up.”
